When I started as a professional photographer six years ago I decided that I would prefer to have a permanent studio as part of the business, and my plan was to work from there rather than home.
I have always carried out around 60 per cent of my work in the studio. I love working in there and I enjoy being able to control the lighting so completely.
I have no natural light facility in the space I use, and so I have to create every bit of light that I work with, which is an enjoyable challenge.
When I first moved into the studio in September 1999 I still had a day job and could not spend the time working on the decoration and so it stayed looking the same for a number of years. In 2005 the business really started to get noticed, however, and I realised that the time had come to make the studio into a great working area rather than just an ‘OK’ work place.
